PSHPC launches dependants’ life cover

Employees will now be able to cover their partner on a group life assurance policy through a dependant’s benefit provided by Punter Southall Health and Protection Consulting’s (PSHPC) new group life product, Havensrock, which is insured by Scottish Friendly.

Traditionally, group life pays a lump sum to an employee’s chosen beneficiary should they die while employed. This helps families deal with the financial practicalities of bereavement but does not cover the employee if their partner dies.

The Havensrock product, which launched on 1 October, will allow cover to be automatically extended to an employee’s partner, as well as the employee, with the employee benefiting financially if their partner dies.

It will be insured by Scottish Friendly and distributed by PSHPC.

Further help to employees will be given through telephone support, and guidance and help for a bereaved child, provided by charity Winston’s Wish.

Its aim is to make group life assurance support the impacted employee financially and emotionally, not just their family.

John Dean (pictured), managing director at PSHPC, said: “Havensrock is a landmark in that this is the first time group life assurance has been extended to employees’ partners too.

“Organisation are really keen to help employees and their families when they are impacted by bereavement.

“Havensrock group life helps employers provide that all-round support at such a difficult time.

“This cost-effective Havensrock Professions approach will help more organisations extend this employee benefit to support the wider family now, when they really need it.”
