Something for the weekend: A bar on stilts in the middle of the Caribbean Sea, situated one mile from the coast of Jamaica, is on the hunt for a new bartender to pull pints and create cocktails over the summer, with all flights and accommodation paid for.
The idyllic job at Floyd’s Pelican Bar, which is being offered by Virgin Holidays, will enable one lucky mixologist to jet to the Caribbean for a scenic summer job; not only are flights and accommodation complimentary, but candidates do not need any qualifications to apply, and can even choose their own start date.
The commute is a world away from Central Line struggles or M25-induced road rage, as the selected bartender will have to get to their new workplace using a boat or paddle board, no matter the weather.
Daily tasks for this position include chatting to regular locals and visiting tourists, as well as throwing the occasional fish to the resident pelicans, who gave the bar its quirky name.
Hiring a summer bartender will allow the bar’s owner, Floyd Forbes, the opportunity to take his first holiday in eight years. Forbes opened Floyd’s Pelican Bar in 2001 to showcase the area’s natural beauty.
Jodie Kidd, a model and publican who will be helping judge the applications, told The Sun: “I love being a pub landlady here in the UK, but if I had the opportunity to take the best of the job and do it all from an island paradise in the Caribbean, I wouldn’t say no.
“This is an incredible chance for anyone looking to combine the best job in the world with one of the best overseas destinations and giving a local legend a well-deserved holiday.”
Here at Employee Benefits, we can see the appeal in swapping the smog for a stint serving drinks in the sun. Although, we wonder whether the chosen bartender will receive an induction on how to steer a paddle board successfully…
