BBC to review presenters’ pay

The BBC Trust is to launch a review into what it pays its presenters.

The trust published its work plan for 2014/15, which sets out key planned activity in the year ahead to inform its strategy for the BBC, and scrutinise and assess its performance.

Since the trust’s previous review, in 2008-09, the broadcaster has successfully reduced its talent pay bill by 13%.

The trust will now commission further work that will examine the BBC’s processes to control costs in recruiting and developing talent, and benchmark against the wider market.

It expects to publish the terms of reference shortly and the review will begin later this spring.

The BBC restructured its pay processes in January 2014 by applying a new employment test to all staff that it had previously employed as freelancers.
