Virgin Media appoints Bupa to provide private healthcare

Virgin Media has appointed Bupa Healthcare Insurance to provide private healthcare to its employees for the next three years.

Virgin Media was formed earlier this year following the merger of Virgin Mobile and Virgin.net with the combined entity of NTL and Telewest. Following the deal, Virgin set about combining the two separate healthcare schemes into a new single healthcare trust.

Bupa has now been selected following a tender process run by Gissings to provide private healthcare insurance to Virgin Media’s workforce of approximately 13,000 employees.

The Virgin Media Employee Medical Scheme includes bespoke and comprehensive medical cover giving employees access to Bupa’s specialist treatment centres for breast, bowel and gynaecological cancers and a 24 hour nurse helpline.

Rob Nutting, head of reward and policy at Virgin Media, said: “The healthcare plan meets our health and financial needs and brings with it an effective claims handling service.”

Bupa Wellness already provides an employee assistance programme to staff at Virgin Media.
