Health insurance organisation Westfield Health is introducing sleep coaching sessions for its employees.

The sleep coaching sessions, provided by James Wilson, a sleep behaviour and environment expert known as the Sleep Geek, will be available to the 200 employees based at the organisation’s head office in Sheffield.

The initiative aims to boost employee wellbeing and improve sleep quality. It will launch in January 2017 with 90-minute ‘Sleep 101’ talks.

Employees will be able to take part in group or one-to-one sleep coaching sessions. The group sessions will cover topics such as the fundamentals of sleep, how to create and apply a restful environment, routine and relaxation, and information about common sleep disorders.

Smaller group sessions will focus on issues such as waking up in the night and helping employees’ children to sleep. One-to-one sessions will also be available to create a bespoke sleep coaching programme for employees.

The sleep coaching initiative looks to complement the current health and wellbeing support Westfield Health provides for its employees, which includes Wellness Wednesdays, free fruit for staff, an on-site gym, and a wellness room.

David Capper, commercial director at Westfield Health, said: “We, like James, understand how important sleep is for a person’s health and we believe it is an integral part of helping improve health and wellbeing.”

James Wilson, sleep ambassador, added: “Sleep is fundamental to health. When we sleep our bodies have time to heal and repair, and it is crucial for reducing the risk of chronic health conditions.”
