Capital One has free gym

Capital One has built an onsite gym as part of its commitment to address staff health and wellbeing.

Since the free gym – on the ground floor of the credit card company’s Nottingham head office – opened in January, about 60% of its staff have been inducted. On the launch day, employees could take part in activities to test their strength and reaction times, as well as visit a masseur.

Employees attending the gym have access to a range of equipment, such as treadmills, exercise bikes, fixed weights and resistance weights. Exercises classes will begin this month and staff who buy five classes will get the sixth one free. Classes likely to be offered include music fit, legs bums and tums, and kettle bells. Employees will also have access to a personal trainer, as well as treatment rooms, where blood pressure checks, flu jabs and massages will take place.

Jill Cunnison, HR operations manager at Capital One, said: “Health and wellbeing is a key part of our agenda. This [gym] is part of our broader health and wellbeing offering. It is really important to take ownership of your health.”

The gym is not staffed, but employees who want to join must have an induction, conducted by fitness professionals.
