Law firm White & Case is to introduce a new HR and payroll system that will gather data on sickness absence, benefits spend and turnover, help to manage staff holidays, and improve the efficiency of processes relating to pay and expenses.
The in-house system, provided by Sage HR and Payroll, will replace an ADP-administered outsourced service in April. The law firm also plans to add a self-service portal to the system in July.
Under the self-service system, staff can notify line managers of their absence by logging details of their illness online. A telephone service will be set up for those without internet access. Line managers will also receive alerts about an employee’s pattern of absence. Triggers such as stress or back problems will be identified and used to drive the firm’s future provision of healthcare benefits.
White & Case based this part of the scheme on a similar set-up at Nationwide Building Society. Kate Griffiths-Lambeth, director of HR, said: “We can analyse data trends. If we see a high preponderance of absence due to flu, for example, we can encourage take-up of the flu vaccinations we provide.”
