Sainsbury’s offered employees the opportunity to take part in a range of fundraising activities in the weeks leading up to Friday 21 March, when the first-ever Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Games took place.

Paralympians and Para-athletes visited Sainsbury’s stores to help employees with fundraising and encourage people to sign-up for the games.

Activities included a deputy manager at the Brookwood store running 131 miles over five days and a group of employees cycling across an area of 18 stores in Devon and Cornwall.

Justin King, chief executive officer of Sainsbury’s, also ran a mile at 17 different locations with more than 1,000 employees across the UK, before finishing with a run, swim and cycle at the Sainsbury’s Sports Relief Games on Sunday 23 March.

King said:I’m proud to announce this year marks our biggest fundraising for Sport Relief, raising more than £6.5 million for the charity.

“I’ve enjoyed every minute and mile of it. This year also marks the biggest fundraising by our employees, which shows how committed our employees and customers are to support a great cause.”
