Theatre firm spotlights talent

Clear Channel Entertainment has found its annual awards ceremony, this year to be held in October, has become an essential motivator for its employees. And the theatre owning chain plans to hold this year’s event at a five-star hotel in south coast resort Torquay.

Brian Newman, human resources manager for Clear Channel Entertainment, said that the Spotlight Awards are designed to reward the best and brightest: “It’s been a phenomenal success. It paints a picture of what a good manager and what a good member of staff looks like, and recognises the top performers. Everyone talks about it.”

The first champagne ceremony took place in 2003 and winners of the event have included a theatre manager and a member of its sales team. Winners also receive a £400 bonus. Newman added: “It allows us to sell the benefits [available] when we recruit, and [also to] retain staff with the financial reward.” The awards have also shown the financial impact the UK business has had on its US parent company, highlighting that its UK motivation strategy was recognised in America.
