Nationwide and Portman use learning at work day to aid staff integraton

Nationwide and Portman Building Societies will use Learning at Work Day as an opportunity to increase understanding between employees prior to their planned merger 28 August.

Organised by The Campaign for Learning, the Learning at Work Day takes place on 24 May and is an annual initiative which celebrates workplace learning. Nationwide and Portman are using the opportunity to run a week-long quiz competition in which Portman employees will be asked questions about Nationwide employees and vise versa.

The quiz will cover areas such as the history of the organisations, business performance, people and products. Prizes of £100 will be awarded to the winners.

John Wrighthouse, Nationwide’s divisional director for human resources, said: “Merging with another organisation is going to have its challenges. It’s not just about merging products and processes, it’s about merging our cultures. We see Learning at Work Day as a perfect vehicle to enhance our programme of integration.”
