GNER to use email alerts as perks’ promotional tool

Train company GNER is to introduce email alerts to communicate products offered through its voluntary benefits scheme called Choices to its 3,000 employees.

The alerts will promote seasonal activities and events from August. John Hayhurst, manager HR services, said: “We want to do more event-focused updates [for example] promoting days out at Alton Towers in the summer, or gym deals post-Christmas.”

Staff will also be sent brochures containing details of the perks.

To aid communication, the company also plans to encourage staff to make use of the WiFi facilities available on its trains. It also has a number of e-learning resource centres at stations around the country, which employees can use to gain internet access.

“There are facilities for staff to go online up and down the country and, also, if [they] are having a break on board a train they can use WiFi and access our Choices website,” said Hayhurst.
