Should employers encourage employees to take up fitness activities?
There’s a world of difference between being supportive of employees who wish to become more active (which I think we should) and putting pressure, however well-intentioned, on employees to take up activities that might not be suitable for their level of health and fitness.

Facilitating employees to be able to take up ‘appropriate’ lifestyle changes including exercise and healthy eating is a positive benefit, providing opportunity, time and a positive approach to take back control of their life with professional support. However, we live in a blame-orientated society, it is worth keeping an eye open for the potential risks and outcomes of a more proactive message or forceful ‘encouragement’, it has the possibility of becoming an absence management black hole.
