Capital One has been named the UK’s best large employer in the Great Place to Work Institute’s ‘Best Workplaces 2015’ awards.

This is the third consecutive year that the credit card organisation has won the award, which is based on an assessment of organisations’ workplace culture, employee engagement and management practices.

Capital One was commended for its training programmes, its internal communications system ‘Pulse’, which is used by 94% of employees, and its new ‘Golden Ticket’ reward scheme which offers staff the chance to win tickets to events throughout the year.

Its employee value proposition also focuses on benefits in the context of total reward. It covers the standard benefits offered by the organisation, such as private medical insurancepensions and bikes for work, and also ensures that staff are given details about their working environment, development opportunities and health and wellbeing initiatives.

The organisation took top spot in the large organisation (500 or more) category, while recruitment firm Goodman Masson was the winner in the medium-sized organisation (50-499) category, and IT consulting organisation DMW Group topped the small employers (20-49) category for the second year in a row.

Karen Bowes, international vice president of HR at Capital One, said: “Our ambition is to make lives better and this underpins everything that we do.

“We have worked hard to create and maintain an environment that truly is a great place to work and we look forward to building on this in years to come.”

Tom O’Byrne, chief executive officer of Great Place to Work UK, added: “This is the third year that Capital One has topped the large category.

“We are tremendously proud to be part of its achievement, not only for Capital One itself, the people who work there and the customers it serves, but for helping to change people’s perceptions about the financial services industry, setting a benchmark for other financial institutions to match and helping to improve the industry as a whole.

“It shares our passion and commitment that by trusting and respecting people there are virtually no limits to what an organisation can achieve.”
