Award fosters pride at Hewlett-Packard

Lorna MacMillan (pictured), former total rewards manager, UK and Ireland at Hewlett-Packard (HP), explains what it means to be recognised with an Employee Benefits award.

The technology organisation won ‘Best healthcare and wellbeing benefits’ at the Employee Benefits Awards 2013. It was chosen for its education-based campaigns and screening initiatives in its Fighting Cancer at HP programme.

1. What has winning an Employee Benefits’ award meant to you and to your team?

External recognition for the work we do is always extremely satisfying and gratifying, and very motivational for everyone involved. It gives a renewed vigour and impetus to future ideas and initiatives.

2. What have you done to communicate your Employee Benefits’ award win to your organisation and to employees?

We published an article in our UK and Ireland all-employee newsletter, and used it, as appropriate, in emails.

3. What has the award meant to the organisation and to employees?

Pride in the external recognition of our actions, which align strongly to our corporate social responsibility principles. For employees, it fosters pride in HP, which we believe is important and positively impacts on many aspects of the employment relationship.

4. What would you say to other employers to encourage them to enter the Employee Benefits Awards 2014?

External feedback on initiatives that you already think are impactful compounds the positives and provides rewarding recognition for everyone involved.

Enter the Employee Benefits Awards 2014. The entry deadline is 18 December.
