News update – Disability law now in full effect

The final phase of the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) came into effect on 1 October. All employers with fewer than 15 staff and those previously exempt professions such as the police, prison officers, fire fighters and barristers will now have to comply with the terms of the Act. They must now ensure that they don’t discriminate against disabled staff, including the provision of benefits, and make reasonable adjustments where necessary to accommodate employees’ disabilities.
