Croydon Council will complete its benefits survey and series of staff benefit workshops at the end of November, and plans to roll out salary sacrifice schemes to its 10,500 employees on a monthly basis in the new year.
The results of the surveys and workshops will help to shape the new range of benefits that will be offered, though the council is confident that it knows which perks will be chosen.
Suzanne Hudson, recruitment and retention manager, said: “We’ll start implementing salary sacrifice schemes from the new year, which will probably include childcare vouchers, and then progress from there with a voluntary benefits launch before Easter.”
The council currently offers a number of local retail discounts for staff, but the plan is to radically change its benefits provision, including putting access to, and information about, benefits online.
“We are looking to completely overhaul the way that we deal with benefits at the moment. We have a few local deals, but have never been online and the deals have never been communicated well,” added Hudson.
Going forward, the council plans to review the benefits package on an annual basis.
