Manufacturing organisation Liebherr Sunderland Works has awarded a 3.3% pay rise to 30 crane assemblers who are members of the trade union Unite.

The pay increase, which was accepted by Unite members on Thursday 6 September 2018, will run between January 2018 and March 2019. The deal also includes staff having Monday 24 December 2018 as an additional paid day of leave.

Unite members at Liebherr Sunderland Works had been participating in strike action since early August 2018 in relation to pay negotiations. This action was organised in conjunction with the trade union GMB, which also represents Liebherr employees at the organisation’s Deptford Terrace site.

Mark Sanderson, regional officer at Unite, said: “Our members voted overwhelmingly to accept the improved offer made by the management. As a result, all strike action has been suspended and our members are working normally.

“I would like to thank our members for the strong solidarity that they have shown, which helped bring about a successful resolution to this dispute. More generally, I would like to thank the Sunderland public and the union movement for their heartfelt support.

“Going forward, we hope to have a constructive dialogue with the management on future employment issues.”
