Manchester United continues to pay staff despite season postponement

Football team Manchester United will continue to pay all match day and non-match day casual staff, even if Premier League games are cancelled or played behind closed doors for the remainder of this season due to the Covid-19 (Coronavirus) outbreak.

The club’s statement follows on from the Football Association’s announcement that all Premier League games will be suspended until at least 30 April 2020.

The continued payments will be made to all match day and non-match day casual employees, provided they have worked at the club for three months.

Ed Woodward, executive vice chairman at Manchester United, said: “We rely on our outstanding employees to deliver an exceptional service and experience to fans at Old Trafford.

“We understand that these are unprecedented circumstances and want to give them security whatever may happen regarding our remaining fixtures this season. We look forward to welcoming back all our supporters, and our employees, to Old Trafford as soon as possible.”

A spokesperson for the club added: “This goodwill gesture reflects the club’s desire to reduce the financial uncertainty facing its casual workforce, and is in recognition of the crucial role they play in delivering services to supporters.”
