Something for the weekend: To celebrate Star Wars Day on 4 May, Orlando Airport staff and visitors were treated with a visit from ‘The Orlandolorian’, a spoof character representing both local and intergalactic trends.

The Orlandolorian sported a costume of which the top half paid homage to Disney+ series The Mandalorian, while the bottom half represented true Orlando style in cargo shorts and socks with sandals.

In a series of posts shared on the airport’s Twitter account throughout the day, The Orlandolorian could be seen helping with various jobs around the airport, from directing traffic to mopping floors and making coffees. The organisation shared a video of his exploits in the style of an episode of the well-known TV show, titled ‘Chapter 407: The Hustle’, complete with atmospheric ‘space western’ theme music and artwork.

This was clearly also Bring Your Foundling to Work Day, as Grogu, better known as ‘baby Yoda’, was by his side at all times, learning what it takes to get the job done at a busy international airport.

According to the posts, this is what happens “when traveling across the galaxy with a foundling is getting expensive, and you decide to pick up a couple of side-jobs along the way”.

It seems that even space exploring bounty hunters are feeling the cost-of-living squeeze these days, and embracing the growing gig economy with great aplomb. To quote The Orlandolorian himself: “you don’t need to beat anyone in combat to wield a Swiffer.”

Here at Employee Benefits, we think this is a great way to keep staff laughing, as well as proving that your diversity and inclusion efforts around hiring really are all-encompassing, even intergalactic! We wonder whether The Londonlorian might visit us next year, perhaps sporting a tracksuit and trainers…until then #MayThe4thBeWithYou
