Specsavers Corporate Eyecare has launched an application (app) called Sight Check, which is designed to help employees engage with their eye health.
The app, which is free to download, includes a series of tests. If the employee requires a full eye examination at the end of the test, they †can book one directly via the internet.
The app is available at the Apple app store and the Android app store.
David Thomson, professor of optometry and visual science at City University London who designed the app, said: “It has been designed to raise awareness of eye health in a current and instantly accessible way.
“While it can’t replace a comprehensive eye examination, it does provide a reading test, a visual acuity test and a fan test for astigmatism.
“It then uses computer intelligence to read the results of these tests and then describe the user’s vision, risk factors and what action they should take.”
Jim Lythgow, director of strategic alliances at Specsavers Corporate Eyecare, added: “This offers support to employers’ eyecare policies. It’s a fun, interactive way to help their employees to engage with their eyecare.
“It makes the employee aware of the importance of regular eye examinations, as well as helping them to appreciate that some people are more at risk of preventable eye conditions than others, because of their family history.”
