Holiday like your colleague

Something for the weekend…

As it becomes wet, windy and cold here in the UK, employees’ thoughts may well turn to sunnier climes and where they would like to go in their next holiday.

But according to research by online travel agency Sunshine.co.uk, which asked 1,892 employees for their top choice of destination, this could be influenced by their profession.

HR professionals are likely to spend their annual holidays in the city of New York, while my media colleagues and I are more likely to be jetting off to the Greek Islands for some sun.

It also found that accountants were most likely to holiday in the luxurious Côte d’Azur in France, while those in administration and customer service were likely to go to the Portuguese Algarve.

Turkey and Spain were the other hot destinations of choice, while those in construction and engineering favour Egypt and the Caribbean islands.

The research also found that 59% of respondents said they were influenced by co-workers’ choice.

Chris Clarkson, managing director of Sunshine.co.uk, said: “It seems that colleagues chatting to one another about their holidays has a big impact on where people choose to go.

“If someone on the desk next to you is jabbering on about their perfect holiday to the Caribbean though, it is going to make you want to go and see for yourself.”

That’s all well and good if your colleagues favour exotic holiday destinations, but it may not be quite so desirable if they head off to Bognor.
